About the Library

Ripon Reading Room In the early 1900s, the first public library consisted of a 50-volume shelf of books at the McKee & Reynolds Mercantile. For the next four decades, “Reading Rooms” in various private homes provided the public with additional access to books.

In December of 1948 the first full-fledged library opened on Main Street. This important civic institution was dedicated to the memory of servicemen from Ripon who died in WW II.

The new Ripon Memorial Library opened on November 18, 2006 with great fanfare. Ripon is now and has been, for over 100 years, a community that champions and embraces the importance and need for a public library to serve the citizen’s educational and informational needs.
